what is dnd?
Dungeons and Dragons, often called D&D, is a really fun game where you get to use your imagination to go on amazing adventures. It's like telling a story, but you get to be one of the characters in the story!
Here's how it works:
Imagination: First, you use your imagination to create a character. This character can be a brave knight, a clever wizard, a sneaky rogue, or any other cool thing you can think of.
Storytelling: Then, a person called the Dungeon Master (That’s Schyler!) tells a story. The story is like a quest or an adventure where your character goes on a journey and faces challenges. The DM describes what's happening in the world around you.
Rolling Dice: To see if your character can do something, like jump over a big hole or defeat a monster, you roll special dice. The dice have different numbers on them, and the DM will tell you what happens based on the number you roll.
Working Together: D&D is a game you play with your friends. Each person has their own character, and together you all work as a team to solve problems and have fun. You might have to figure out puzzles, battle monsters, or talk to interesting characters.
Choices: The best part is that you get to make choices for your character. Do you want to be brave and fight the dragon, or maybe you want to talk to the dragon and see if you can be friends? It's all up to you!
what kind of character can i be?
here are some common examples!
Wizard: Wizards are magical characters who can cast spells. They are often very smart and can do things like shoot fireballs or make magical barriers.
Fighter: Fighters are strong and tough. They're great at using weapons like swords or axes and are often the ones who lead the way in battles.
Rogue: Rogues are sneaky and good at things like hiding and picking locks. They can be thieves or assassins, but they're also very good at finding traps.
Cleric: Clerics are like magical healers. They can help their friends by healing wounds or even have powers that protect against evil.
Ranger: Rangers are skilled in outdoor activities. They might be great archers, able to shoot arrows with amazing accuracy, and often have a strong connection with nature.
Paladin: Paladins are holy warriors. They fight for justice and might have magical powers that come from their strong sense of goodness.
Barbarian: Barbarians are fierce warriors who rely on their strength and passion in battle. They can go into a rage, becoming even more powerful.
Bard: Bards are performers and storytellers. They use their creativity to cast spells and inspire their allies. They're often good at a little bit of everything.
Druid: Druids have a deep connection with nature. They can shape-shift into animals, cast nature spells, and often work to protect the environment.
Sorcerer: Sorcerers are born with innate magical abilities. They can cast spells, but their magic is often wild and unpredictable.
how does a campaign at little roots work?
We have lots of ongoing campaigns for folks 8 & up!
little roots hosts both kids campaigns, and adult campaigns (you can see the schedule and available slots down below!) these campaigns are ongoing. sessions are between 2 and 3 hours long, happen once weekly, and adventurers can continue on the same quest for 8 or more weeks!
because the campaigns are so long, experienced players can hop into a group with availability at any time.
starting in early 2024, all dnd sessions will happen in an exclusive dnd room with a private entrance - which means more privacy, less distractions, and overall more epic dungeon-crawling, monster-slaying fun!
2 hour long sessions are $15, and 3 hr sessions are $20. players (or their adult!) are invoiced at the first of the month, for all of the month’s sessions. any missed sessions will be credited to the following month.
